Stuff a Truck 2017 / Joy for Toby

On December 10th 2017, Don Farr Moving & Storage donated our time & our truck to help with a local toy drive, put on by Monroeville resident, Katie Stern. The event, Joy for Toby, with Play it Forward Pittsburgh, collected new and gently used toys for children in need this holiday season. The event was held at Dad’s Pub & Grub in Monroeville PA.

Despite the cold temperatures, the community came out in full force and within 4 hours, filled a 26 foot truck with books, toys and bikes!

The following day, Don Farr Moving & Storage took the loaded truck to the David L Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, PA to drop off the donations.

As an independent, family-owned business, we are always looking for ways to give back to the community that has supported us through the years. Don Farr Moving would like to thank everyone that came out to volunteer & support this wonderful cause.

Happy Holidays from our family to yours.

Don Farr Moving & Manchester Growing Together Garden

On April 6, 2016, Don Farr teamed up with Nova Place to donate 67 planters to North Side’s local Manchester Growing Together Garden.

Altogether the job took six round trips in order to complete, but in the end, it was all worth it. Manchester Growing Together Gardens is a program that embodies hope for a community that needs it. The garden stands to show the residents of the area that no matter how barren the land originally was, you can still grow beautiful things from it. The garden hopes to translate its message to the lives of those who live nearby with the hope that anyone who needs to make something out of nothing in their lives can do so.

Don Farr Moving and Storage is a proud supporter of Manchester Growing Together Gardens and all organizations who inspire hope in others everywhere.

Foster Love Project 2016

On Thursday January 11th Don Farr Moving & Storage was proud to team up again with the Foster Love Project. The kids are provided with a backpack filled with items such as pajamas, blankets, books, stuffed animals and other items. Collections are made at various locations all around the city and then Don Farr Moving was asked to help with taking the items to various placement centers all around the city of Pittsburgh. Kelly Hughes the founder of the Foster Love Project and Don Farr Moving made 11 stops in 4 counties that Thursday bringing smiles to all of the center’s volunteers. Please enjoy the photos and take a moment to learn more about this wonderful project at http://www.pghmomtourage.com/p/foster-love-project.html

Steve and Doug Go West

Over these past 2 weeks Driver Steve and assistant Doug tag-teamed on moves across America, stopping in exciting locations such as Iowa; Fairplay, CO; Vail, CO; and Utah.

In Fairplay, CO the duo moved in a couple of two to bring the total population of the town from 679 to 681!

Luckily the group was just on time to go skiing on the slopes in Vail, CO! There they had the opportunity to ski on 31 different terrains.

It was a great trip and the guys managed to get back just in time for Halloween!

Wilsons Arch – Utah

In our latest trip, spanning from Illinois, to California, and back home to Pennsylvania, Matt and Deejay ventured over to the great Wilson’s Arch in Utah off route 191. This natural sandstone structure holds a vast hole of 91 feet in width, and 46 feet in height.

In case you were wondering, we could successfully park a Don Farr truck within the loop, though the park rangers would not let us.

Here’s some striking pictures of the Hindman (our sister company) truck parked in front of the arch!

Foster Love Project and Don Farr Moving

Don Farr Moving & Storage was recently involved in a wonderful mission for Foster Love Project. The task of Foster Love Project is to provide placement bags for children that are entering into foster care. The bags include pajamas, blankets, stuffed animals, toothbrushes and other necessities that make the transition a bit easier for the children.

In 2014, Foster Love Project was able to collect 1,345 bags worth an estimated value of $54,000!

When all the bags were collected, Don Farr Moving provided a truck and transportation to help deliver the bags. Some of the foster agency recipients included the Bair Foundation, Auberle, Three Rivers Adoption Council, Every Child, Inc., Bethany Christian Services, Family Pathways and the Beaver County Child & Youth Services. All of these wonderful agencies help children in foster care every single day. Don Farr Moving & Storage was honored to be a part of this wonderful project and organization. Don Farr collected bags from Pittsburgh Lending Library and Playspace and from a local group Pittsburgh Momtourage, which was founded in 2009.

While this isn’t technically a “Tale from the Road”, we here at Don Farr wanted to share this story and help bring more awareness to this wonderful cause that was right in our own backyard here in the Pittsburgh region. Thank you so much to Foster Love project. If you are interested and would like to find out more, or how to help donate, you can email Kelly Hughes at Pghmoms@live.com.

Amusement Park

Chris and Butch visited a really cool place in Acton, California yesterday where we were contracted to relocate some items to Hillsborough, OH.

The place was an amusement park with many buildings and even a Ferris wheel! Butch sent us the attached photos for everyone to check out. The crew will be in California for a couple more days before heading out to Nevada, New Mexico, Texas and Arkansas.

IMAG0140 IMAG0145Ultimately, they will end up back with us here in Pennsylvania but they will make sure to drop off the items from the park in California to their new home in Ohio!

If you have a last minute move coming from the west coast to the east coast give us a call at 1-800-DF-MOVES. We can have Chris and Butch stop by and tell you about all of their Tales from the Road!

Welcome to our Blog

Don Farr Moving and Storage “Pittsburgh’s Hometown Mover” is excited to celebrate the first post to our blog page. Now you may ask yourself “why would anyone want to read a blog from a moving company?” but we can think of many reasons!

Our drivers and trucks are constantly traveling all over the United States and our goal is to share the adventures of our guys! Also while we are updating this blog if you read about our trucks heading toward a certain area and you need a last minute move give us a call, we may be able to offer you a deal! Our goal is to keep our trucks as full possible no matter where they are going and we handle moves from anywhere in the country to anywhere in the country. So what that means to you is if we have a truck already there or going somewhere you may want to move we can offer you savings!

Another reason to check out our blog is we will constantly be posting specials and deals on moving! Occasionally we will be offering free items as well as special rates to certain cities! So whether you’re moving locally in Pennsylvania or long distance we will be posting some great deals!

Have a question about moving? Our blog may have the answer! We will be posting tips and FAQ’s here all the time. We are always being asked questions from our customers so while we are here to help over the phone with any questions you may… It may give us an idea for a great blog!

Finally we hope to use our blog to share the adventures of Don Farr Moving and tales from the road! Our guys and our office are always hearing and seeing some pretty cool things! We always said here that we could make a really good show for cable television but in the meantime we hope to use our blog as a way to share these tales with our customers! For example just the other day we spoke to a customer who was moving in our storage because they believed their house was haunted! It was a great tale and might be a good blog for Halloween!

Check back and finally thanks for visiting our website! Also please don’t hesitate to give us a call at 1-800-DF-MOVES!
